Overview

THE ROLE

C2 Education is looking for a Payroll Manager who will own the timely and compliant completion of the Company’s payroll processes for approximately 1,200 employees.  This role will replace our retiring Payroll Manager, and will allow us to seamlessly continue to support our employees, located in approximately 170 centers across 14 states.  The Payroll Manager will report to the Corporate Controller, and will own the biweekly payroll process.  In addition, the Payroll Manager will be an integral part of the C2 Education Accounting Team, and will work closely with Accounting, HR, and Operations to ensure an error free payroll process.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage a complex, service-oriented, multi-state payroll, including garnishments, benefits, and taxes, consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws using Paycom.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and other applicable rules and regulations in accurately processing payroll, withholding taxes, garnishments, and deductions.
  • Point of contact for payroll issues and engages appropriate resources for resolution.
  • Actively manage key internal relationships with Finance, HR, A/P, IT, and Operations, as appropriate.
  • Subject matter expert on all payroll processes and procedures, including but not limited to, extra on-cycle payrolls, off-cycle payrolls, year-end processing, retroactive payments, quarterly/annual tax processes, etc.
  • Be an active participant in the Company’s annual audit process, as it pertains to Payroll-related requests.
  • Supervise and train Payroll Specialist, with goal of having a backup person for critical Payroll responsibilities.

Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS ESSENTIAL TO JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Exercise sound independent judgment within established guidelines; ability to work independently.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Work involves meeting multiple demands on a timely basis and may require occasional overtime; work outside regular business hours may be required from time to time.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or other related field.
  • Working knowledge of Paycom payroll system (desired, not required).
  • 4 or more years of large payroll processing experience (1,000+ employees) that includes exposure to benefits, 401(k) plans, and multi-location environments. Experience with California payroll requirements preferred.
  • 2 or more years of experience as a Payroll Manager, with direct ownership of the entire payroll process.
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to handle complex payroll issues.
